Biography: 

French painter and engraver, born in Paris. He discovered painting through frequent visits to the Louvre. He had foreseen becoming an art critic rather than a painter, but eventually began painting himself, creating lyrical abstract works. From 1971, he was part of the 'Supports/Surfaces' movement. He uses a range of materials in his work.
