Biography:

Belgian painter, sculptor, draughtsman and graphic designer, Yvan Theys studied at the Tournai Academy, where he was appointed lecturer in 1959. Close to the CoBrA movement, his early abstract work evolved towards figurative art, inspired by the great masters such as Rubens, Van Eyck and Picasso. His style moved close to fauvism and expressionaism, although his singular style is outside that of other currents. In the 1970s, the theme of man-woman became recurrent, a theme that he also exploited in sculpture.
