Biography:

Dutch painter born in 1895, died in 1981. He studied in Mauritius and The Hague, enabling him to copy the great Dutch masters. At the end of his studies a grant enabled him to go and study in Munich, at which point he also began to travel throughout Europe. He quickly detached himself from academism and adopted an abstract style. However, this radical change of style made his early career somewhat difficult.
